The Role

Operational Service Technician - Salary £31,200 per annum - Full time 37.5 hours per week - Midlands based.

The Operational Service Technician is responsible for the proactive monitoring, maintenance, and first-line support of APCOA's Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) infrastructure. The role ensures the availability, reliability, and performance of operational assets by responding to equipment faults, conducting site visits, analysing system performance, and producing operational and commercial reports. Working closely with internal teams and external partners, the technician will help maximise system uptime, improve service delivery, and support the continuous improvement of APCOA's operational technology estate.
 
You will be covering the following areas: University of Warwick, Loughborough University, CBS Arena, Utilita Arena Birmingham, University of Southampton.
 
 What you will do:
  •  Monitor ANPR assets and supporting infrastructure daily to ensure optimum operational 
    performance.
    • Proactively identify equipment issues, performance degradation, and communication failures.
    • Monitor system health dashboards and alerts, escalating issues where appropriate.
    • Ensure operational assets meet agreed service availability and performance targets.
    • Identify recurring faults and recommend preventative actions to reduce downtime.
    • Respond promptly to equipment faults and operational incidents.
    • Attend sites to provide first-line technical support, diagnostics, and fault resolution.
    • Replace or repair basic hardware components where appropriate.
    • Coordinate with specialist engineers or third-party suppliers for complex repairs.
    • Verify equipment functionality following repairs and ensure systems are returned to service.
    • Maintain accurate records of all incidents, repairs, and site visits.
    • Analyse ANPR system trends, asset reliability, and recurring faults.
    • Assist in developing dashboards and KPIs to monitor service performance.
    Stakeholder Collaboration.
    • Support project teams with the deployment and commissioning of new ANPR assets.
    • Carry out planned preventative maintenance visits to operational sites.
    • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at increasing system reliability and 
    reducing repeat faults.
    • Assist with testing software or firmware updates before wider deployment.
    Compliance & Safety
    • Maintain company vehicles, tools, and equipment in a safe and serviceable condition.

What you will bring:
  • Experience supporting operational technology, CCTV, ANPR, networking, or similar systems.
    • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
    • Excellent analytical and reporting abilities.
    • Good understanding of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
    • Ability to interpret operational data and identify trends.
    • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to operational sites.
    • Customer-focused with excellent attention to detail.
